Newspapers and other forms of media often focus on negative events and negative gossip about famous people. It is for humor, and as a kind of us-against-them way of joining with the listeners.

This negativity is all over the media. Because people are naturally influenced by what they perceive to be the norm, all of this has influenced people to think more negatively than they otherwise would.
